Enzymatic stability motivates the extra three residues at the carboxyl end. Native tuftsin is cleaved quickly by circulating aminopeptidases and carboxypeptidases, which limits its duration of action and its usefulness as a tool compound. Extending the chain with proline-rich segments is a common design tactic because proline constrains the backbone and slows proteolysis. The same Pro-Gly-Pro motif appears in other Russian-developed peptides of the era. Whether the full seven-residue chain is required for activity, or whether it acts mainly as a prodrug releasing tuftsin, remains unresolved.
Selank is a synthetic heptapeptide with the sequence Thr-Lys-Pro-Arg-Pro-Gly-Pro. Its four N-terminal residues reproduce tuftsin, a tetrapeptide fragment of the immunoglobulin heavy chain, while the C-terminal Pro-Gly-Pro extension is a synthetic addition. The peptide has a molecular mass near 752 daltons and carries a net positive charge at physiological pH because of the arginine and lysine side chains. Published indexes list it under the name Selank and the sequence abbreviation TKPRPGP. Solid-phase peptide synthesis is the standard production route for research quantities.
Development took place at the Institute of Molecular Genetics of the Russian Academy of Sciences, where a series of short peptides were designed in the 1980s and 1990s. Selank was selected from variants of tuftsin that showed resistance to plasma peptidases. Russian regulatory approval covers it as an anxiolytic agent given intranasally. Outside that market the compound is normally handled as a research chemical rather than a medicine, and no widely recognised international pharmacopoeial monograph exists. The name Selank is a coined trade designation rather than a systematic chemical name.
Reported activity for Selank centers on anxiolytic and nootropic effects. Russian clinical reports describe use in anxiety and in cognitive or attention-related complaints. Most of this evidence comes from studies conducted by the same research groups that developed the peptide. Independent replication in other countries remains limited, and no major Western regulatory agency has approved the compound for any indication. The gap between local reports and external verification is a recurring point in discussions of the peptide.
Tuftsin, the parent structure, is a naturally occurring immunomodulatory tetrapeptide released from the Fc region of immunoglobulin G by spleen enzymes. Selank extends this four-residue sequence with three additional amino acids. The stated rationale is that the added tail slows enzymatic breakdown and may influence receptor interactions. How the full heptapeptide behaves at the molecular level is not firmly established, and proposed mechanisms often involve indirect modulation of neurotransmitter or immune signaling rather than a single defined target.

Selank is not a naturally occurring peptide and has no known endogenous counterpart in human physiology. Russian-language sources frequently call it TP-7, while English-language sources use the name Selank almost exclusively. Database indexing is uneven, partly because early reports appeared in regional journals that are not widely cataloged. Some summaries describe the material as a tuftsin analog and others as a synthetic heptapeptide; the labels overlap rather than conflict. Citing the primary sequence resolves ambiguity more reliably than the research or trade name alone.
Selank is a synthetic heptapeptide with the sequence Thr-Lys-Pro-Arg-Pro-Gly-Pro, written TKPRPGP in one-letter notation. Its structure consists of the immunomodulatory tetrapeptide tuftsin, Thr-Lys-Pro-Arg, extended at the carboxyl terminus by a Pro-Gly-Pro segment. The molecular formula is commonly given as C33H57N11O9, corresponding to a monoisotopic mass near 751.4 Da and an average molecular mass near 751.9 Da. All seven residues are proteinogenic amino acids, and the molecule carries no modified side chains or non-natural linkages.
The primary structure of Selank is Thr-Lys-Pro-Arg-Pro-Gly-Pro, corresponding to the molecular formula C33H57N11O9 and a monoisotopic mass of roughly 751.9 daltons. The N-terminal threonine and the arginine residue in the fourth position are shared with tuftsin, which carries the sequence Thr-Lys-Pro-Arg. The three additional residues at the C-terminus, Pro-Gly-Pro, extend the chain and are associated with greater resistance to enzymatic degradation. This extension also separates Selank from the shorter parent peptide.
Naming conventions place Selank in the same research family as Semax, another Russian-developed peptide investigated for cognitive effects. The two compounds share a lineage but differ in sequence and in the biological systems proposed as their targets. Semax descends from ACTH fragments, whereas Selank descends from tuftsin. Publications sometimes identify Selank by its full peptide sequence or by laboratory codes rather than one uniform trade name. Because replication outside Russia is limited, reports on its properties are best read alongside the study design and the purity of the material tested.
Amines, such as norepinephrine, epinephrine, and dopamine (catecholamines), are derived from single amino acids, in this case tyrosine. Thyroid hormones such as 3,5,3'-triiodothyronine (T3) and 3,5,3',5'-tetraiodothyronine (thyroxine, T4) make up a subset of this class because they derive from the combination of two iodinated tyrosine amino acid residues.
=== Active funds === A few actively managed investment funds have been created which target the megacap segment of the US stock market. They explicitly give their own definitions of the megacap segment when explaining their investment strategies. The Fidelity Mega Cap Stock Fund mutual fund (ticker symbol: FGRTX) defines megacaps as companies "whose market capitalization is similar to [that] of companies in the Russell Top 200 Index or the S&P 100 Index". As of December 31, 2025, the fund had 116 holdings. The Principal US Mega-Cap ETF (Nasdaq: USMC) defines megacaps as companies "with market capitalizations in the top 50th percentile of the S&P 500 Index". As of September 30, 2025, such companies had market caps ranging from $149.6 billion to $4.6 trillion. As of June 30, 2025, the fund had 27 holdings.
=== Definition by Waterlow === In the 1970s, John Conrad Waterlow established a new classification system for malnutrition. Instead of using just weight for age measurements, Waterlow's system combines weight-for-height (indicating acute episodes of malnutrition) with height-for-age to show the stunting that results from chronic malnutrition. One advantage of the Waterlow classification is that weight for height can be calculated even if a child's age is unknown.
On the same day, Pakistani officials said that three civilians were killed and three others were injured in artillery shelling carried out by Taliban forces in border areas of Pakistan's Bajaur district. Pakistani officials said the shelling was intended to support an infiltration attempt, which was foiled by Pakistani border guards, destroying a gun position and inflicting heavy casualties to Taliban forces. CTD also claimed to have killed two militants in Peshawar. Clashes and clearance operations in Hangu district led to two militants being killed and several injured while a policeman was killed and another was injured. On 17 April, Taliban-run Radio Television Afghanistan reported that 10 rockets launched by Pakistan destroyed a health center in Barikot, Kunar Province. On 18 April, an abandoned police post in Bannu District was destroyed by militants using explosives. On 19 April, a TTP militant and an alleged suicide bomber were killed by Pakistani forces in an operation in Bannu District. Two Federal Constabulary personnel were also killed by militants in Bannu District, the same day. On 20 April, Taliban forces opened fire on a suspected Pakistani unmanned aircraft in Zaranj, Nimruz province, killing one Afghan civilian and injuring another. The victims were travelling in a vehicle in the city when they were struck by bullets fired by the Taliban forces.

=== Tandem in space MS/MS modes === When tandem MS is performed with an in space design, the instrument must operate in one of a variety of modes. There are a number of different tandem MS/MS experimental setups and each mode has its own applications and provides different information. Tandem MS in space uses the coupling of two instrument components which measure the same mass spectrum range but with a controlled fractionation between them in space, while tandem MS in time involves the use of an ion trap. There are four main scan experiments possible using MS/MS: precursor ion scan, product ion scan, neutral loss scan, and selected reaction monitoring. For a precursor ion scan, the product ion is selected in the second mass analyzer, and the precursor masses are scanned in the first mass analyzer. Note that precursor ion is synonymous with parent ion and product ion with daughter ion; however the use of these anthropomorphic terms is discouraged. In a product ion scan, a precursor ion is selected in the first stage, allowed to fragment and then all resultant masses are scanned in the second mass analyzer and detected in the detector that is positioned after the second mass analyzer. This experiment is commonly performed to identify transitions used for quantification by tandem MS. In a neutral loss scan, the first mass analyzer scans all the masses. The second mass analyzer also scans, but at a set offset from the first mass analyzer. This offset corresponds to a neutral loss that is commonly observed for the class of compounds.
The Southern Syria conflict is an ongoing conflict in southern Syria between Druze militias and the Syrian transitional government. Since the fall of the Assad regime, the conflict has centered around control of Druze-majority areas in Suwayda Governorate and conflict with local Muslim Bedouins. In October 2025, The New York Times reported that over 1,300 people had been killed in the violence, mostly Druze civilians. Following demonstrations of the Druze minority in Israel, demanding government action to protect the Druze of Syria against alleged persecution, Israel launched airstrikes in support of the Druze. There are accusations that the transitional government is imposing a blockade on the self-governed, Druze-majority regions, and that this blockade intensified in late August 2026.
"Tetrachlorodecaoxide" (TCDO) is a chlorite-containing substance with claimed immunomodulatory, macrophage-activating properties. WF10 (Macrokine, Immunokine, Oxoferin) is an aqueous solution of tetrachlorodecaoxide designed for intravenous injection. Tetrachlorodecaoxide/WF10 were originally developed by Oxo Chemie. The chemical formula is given as Cl4H2O114-. This incomplete formula shows a mixture of chlorite ion, water, and molecular oxygen: "Cl4H2O114-" = 4ClO2− + H2O + O2. Oxoferin was found to be equivalent with aqueous sodium chlorite. Tetrachlorodecaoxide / WF10 is used in the management of radiation cystitis, is effective in the treatment of diabetic foot ulcers, and is used in wound healing, where the mechanism of action is activation of the macrophage system, and increasing the partial pressure of oxygen in the wound.
== History == The safety and efficacy of efgartigimod alfa were evaluated in a 26-week clinical study of 167 participants with myasthenia gravis who were randomized to receive either efgartigimod alfa or placebo. It was a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial. The study showed that more participants with myasthenia gravis with antibodies responded to treatment during the first cycle of efgartigimod alfa (68%) compared to those who received placebo (30%) on a measure that assesses the impact of myasthenia gravis on daily function. More participants receiving efgartigimod alfa also demonstrated response on a measure of muscle weakness compared to placebo. The trial was conducted at 56 sites in 15 countries in Belgium, Canada, the Czech Republic, Denmark, France, Georgia, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Japan, the Netherlands, Poland, the Russian Federation, Serbia, and the US. Efgartigimod alfa is also studied for the treatment of patients with chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyneuropathy (CIDP). The clinical trial known as ADHERE, conducted by Argenx, involved the enrollment of 322 individuals diagnosed with CIDP. In the initial phase of the study, all subjects received weekly injections of Vyvgart. Following a period of 12 weeks, it was observed that 67% of the patients exhibited positive responses to Vyvgart, as evidenced by improvements in their muscle disability scores.
Found under the patio at Cromwell Street was the body of the Wests' daughter, Heather, who had been murdered in June 1987 after being abused by her parents all her life. It is said that Heather had begun to tell her friends about her abuse. Barry, her younger brother, would later describe watching, as a seven-year-old, his mother kick Heather repeatedly about the head until she was no longer moving. The Wests had told friends and concerned parties that Heather left home to work at a Devonshire holiday village and on one occasion fabricated a phone call, supposedly from Heather, to allay her siblings' suspicions about her disappearance. Fred would even taunt his children when they misbehaved by jokingly stating, "If you don't behave, you'll end up under the patio like Heather." This was the last known murder that the pair committed. While on remand at HM Prison Birmingham, Fred died by suicide by hanging on 1 January 1995.

Selank is a seven-amino-acid peptide built from the tuftsin sequence plus a Pro-Gly-Pro tail. It is produced by chemical synthesis rather than extracted from a natural source. The free peptide is usually supplied as a lyophilised powder or in an aqueous formulation.
Tuftsin is a natural tetrapeptide derived from the Fc portion of immunoglobulin G. Selank retains that tetrapeptide at its N-terminus and adds three residues to improve resistance to enzymatic breakdown. The relationship is structural, and the two molecules are not interchangeable in experimental work.
It holds a product registration in Russia for intranasal use as an anxiolytic. Registrations of that kind are not automatically accepted by regulators elsewhere. In most other countries it is treated as an unapproved substance or a research material.
Selank is a synthetic peptide made of seven amino acids. It is modeled on tuftsin, a natural tetrapeptide, with an added three-residue tail. It is not a small-molecule drug.
